Abstract

A recent report from researchers at the University of Education in Lahore, Pakistan, discusses the formulation and evaluation of ophthalmic microemulsion for enhanced topical administration of brinzolamide, an antihypertensive drug used in the treatment of glaucoma. The researchers found that microemulsions are more effective than conventional formulations for ophthalmic use due to their optical transparency, thermodynamic stability, structural flexibility, and higher bioavailability. They developed three biocompatible microemulsion formulations containing brinzolamide and evaluated their efficacy for topical ocular administration. The study demonstrated that the microemulsion formulations showed enhanced and persistent topical ocular administration of brinzolamide. [Extracted from the article]
