Abstract

This article discusses the importance of adopting trauma-informed workplace practices in school districts. It highlights the factors that contribute to teacher burnout and attrition, such as staff shortages and increased difficulties with student behavior. A trauma-informed organization takes a comprehensive approach to being aware of, informed about, and responsive to trauma, and it adheres to principles that embrace empowerment, safety, trustworthiness, collaboration and mutuality, and cultural sensitivity. The article also emphasizes the impact of trauma on students and the need for educators to prioritize their own well-being. Efforts to address these issues include mindfulness programs, calm spaces for educators, mentoring programs, and leadership practices that recognize and respond to stress levels. By adopting a trauma-informed approach, schools can support the well-being of their staff and ultimately improve student learning. [Extracted from the article]
