Abstract
- A letter published in the Annals of Intensive Care discusses the incidence and outcomes of COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) in mechanically ventilated patients. The study found that CAPA is a rare but serious complication of severe COVID-19 requiring mechanical ventilation, with a fatality rate ranging from 22.2% to 71.4%. The incidence of CAPA varied widely due to factors such as population heterogeneity and screening strategies, leading to controversy over routine screening and preventive treatment. The letter suggests that identifying risk factors, routinely screening high-risk populations, and using targeted prevention or early treatment could help reduce mortality from CAPA.
