Abstract

This article delves into the multifaceted role of voice in various aspects of life, such as politics, personal experiences, and social interactions. It emphasizes the need for voice educators and practitioners to critically examine their teaching and coaching methods to promote fairness in vocal expression. The article also explores the Western perspective of the body as separate from the mind and its implications for marginalized communities. It suggests a different understanding of the body that acknowledges its central role in human existence and its connection to social and political forces. Lastly, the article underscores the significance of recognizing the relational nature of voicing and the influence of social contexts on how voices are perceived. It advocates for an ethical approach to voice that challenges unequal listening and speaking practices, promotes vocal justice by distributing vocal opportunities more equitably, and resists oppressive norms.
