Abstract
- A report from the Anthrax Reference Institute of Italy challenges the traditional understanding of anthrax epidemiology. The report suggests that the severity of anthrax infection is not solely dependent on the number of spores ingested, as previously believed. Instead, the report proposes that a combination of latent infections and reduced host resistance, influenced by the host's relationship with its environment, better explains the epidemiology of severe infections in anthrax outbreaks. The researchers recommend considering the opinions of livestock owners, veterinary practitioners, and field workers during investigations to gain a more diverse understanding of the disease.
