Abstract
- A report from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in Hefei, China, explores the role of oral and intestinal microbiota in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The study found that IBD patients had a higher abundance of the intestinal bacteria Shigella spp., which was positively related to the severity of IBD. They also had lower levels of intestinal probiotics and a higher abundance of oral bacteria Neisseria. The research suggests that dysbiosis and the presence of pathogenic bacteria may be associated with the occurrence and development of IBD. [Extracted from the article]
