Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Hong Kong explores the use of three-dimensional (3D) surface imaging systems for 3D face acquisition in craniofacial research and practice. The study aims to provide clinicians and researchers with an overview of the currently available 3D surface imaging technologies and systems, helping them select the most suitable system for their needs. The researchers conducted a comprehensive literature search and analyzed 71 articles to gather information on the hardware, software, and operational aspects of these systems. The study concludes that while some systems are already being used in clinical settings, others show promise and may become cost-effective and portable in the future, enabling accurate assessments, treatment simulations, and improved outcomes.
