Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of Minnesota explored the use of natural killer (NK) cells, supported by interleukin 2 (IL-2) or IL-15, to decrease virus-producing cells in the lymphatic tissues of individuals with HIV. The study involved a pilot group of six participants and found that the approach was well tolerated with no unexpected adverse events. The researchers observed a moderate decrease in the frequency of viral RNA-positive cells in lymph nodes, suggesting that further studies are warranted to determine the impact of healthy NK cells on HIV reservoirs and their potential role in an HIV cure strategy.
