Abstract

A 4‐year‐old, female alpaca developed necrotising myositis caused by Clostridium difficile and Clostridium clostridioforme, a clostridia spp. previously unknown to affect camelids, shortly after an event of grain overload. The affected leg was amputated due to the aggressive necrosis. This case reports an interesting sequelae of grain overload in camelids, as well as highlights the presence of bacteria not previously known to be pathogenic in camelids and that may need to be further considered in the list of pathogens of South American camelids.
