Abstract
- The article discusses the use of special substrates at the Foulis Press, a printing press in Glasgow from the 1740s to the 1790s. The Foulis brothers, Robert and Andrew, printed over 700 editions, many of which were Greek and Latin classics for students. They often created different issues by using different formats, paper types, and text arrangements. While most editions were printed on paper, the Foulises occasionally used vellum, silk, and linen as substrates. These special substrates were used for a small number of copies within an edition and were likely considered as collectible objects. [Extracted from the article]
