Abstract

This article explores the story of Lilian Harrison, a female swimmer from Argentina in the 1920s. Lilian's achievements in long-distance swimming, including being the first person to swim across the Rio de la Plata, are discussed. The article also addresses the gendered assumptions and discrimination Lilian faced in her pursuit of swimming. It emphasizes the importance of studying sports in history to gain insights into the lives and struggles of ordinary people, particularly women who have been historically overlooked in sports narratives.
