Abstract

The second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) faces specific challenges, according to an article in Energy Update. One challenge is the delay in establishing Special Economic Zones (SEZs) for industrial cooperation, with only one zone currently partially functional. There is also confusion regarding the functioning modalities of the SEZs, and Pakistan lacks a plan to create inward and outward linkages with potential investors. On the agricultural side, China has offered Pakistan opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including modernizing agricultural production and accessing China's growing food market. Additionally, Pakistan can explore opportunities in the Belt and Road Initiative, e-commerce, and the Gulf region. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for Pakistan to define the role of state-owned enterprises and learn from different models of economic security. [Extracted from the article]
