Abstract
- The article provides a recap of the NCAA Convention 2024. On the first day, Division I approved new rules regarding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) to protect student-athletes and increase transparency. Student-athletes will be required to disclose NIL deals exceeding $600, and schools must notify the NCAA. Division I also proposed rules on institutional involvement and recruiting activities. Additionally, new enforcement rules were approved, holding coaches and staff members accountable for violations. The second day discussed the NCAA's push for federal legislation to establish uniformity in college athletics and the presentation of the Connecting Athletics Revenues with Educational Model (C.A.R.E. Model) by the Knight Commission. The C.A.R.E. Model aims to incentivize transparency, independent oversight, core values, and financial responsibility. The article also mentions a recent NIL violation by Florida State and the NCAA's penalties. [Extracted from the article]
