Abstract

A recent study conducted by Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City has provided new insights into a rare form of liver cancer called NIPBL::NACC1 fusion hepatic carcinoma. The study analyzed 11 cases of this type of tumor and found that they lacked the typical features of cholangiocarcinoma but exhibited unique characteristics, including immunoreactivity for inhibin and NIPBL::NACC1 fusions. The tumors were predominantly found in adult women and presented with abdominal pain and large hepatic masses. Whole-genome sequencing analysis revealed the presence of the fusion in all tested cases. The researchers propose naming this neoplasm NIPBL:NACC1 fusion hepatic carcinoma.
