Abstract
- A recent study conducted in Spain explored the relationship between influenza infection and cardiovascular events such as acute myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. The study used individual-level data from electronic registries and found that the risk of these events increased more than 2-fold during the 14 days after mild influenza cases in patients with fewer risk factors, and more than 4-fold after severe cases in the most vulnerable patients. The study provides further evidence supporting causality and reinforces the importance of influenza prevention in at-risk groups. The full study can be accessed for free online.
