Abstract

A new study conducted by researchers at MIT has identified factors that contribute to an imbalance between the left and right ventricles in patients who receive mechanical pumps to assist with heart function. The study also developed a test that doctors can use to predict whether this imbalance will occur in a particular patient. By understanding the mechanisms behind this imbalance, doctors can make more informed decisions about using ventricular assist devices (VADs) and potentially improve outcomes for patients. The researchers hope to further expand their findings through additional studies and collaboration with device manufacturers. [Extracted from the article]
