Abstract

A recent study conducted at King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, examined the prevalence of impulse control disorders (ICDs) in patients with dopamine agonist-treated pituitary adenomas. The study found that 52% of participants reported at least one ICD, with compulsive shopping, punding, and hypersexuality being the most common. Younger age, not being unmarried or single, and a positive history of psychiatric illness were identified as significant risk factors for ICDs. The researchers concluded that endocrinologists should be aware of this potential side effect, especially in patients with a personal history of psychiatric disorder. [Extracted from the article]
