Abstract

A study conducted at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China, examined the evolution of cardiac structure and function in pediatric heart transplant patients during the first year post-transplant. The study found that left heart parameters, such as left atrial length and left ventricular stroke volume, increased over the first year, while interventricular septum and left ventricular posterior wall decreased at 3 months but increased afterwards. Right heart parameters, including right ventricular base diameter and tricuspid E velocity, increased over the first year. The study also found that biventricular function parameters at 1-year post-transplant were associated with major adverse transplant events. The results of this study could help in predicting adverse events and designing longer follow-up studies. [Extracted from the article]
