Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of New Mexico has provided new insights into the role of DNA ligases in maintaining genome integrity. DNA ligases are enzymes that join breaks in the DNA backbone, which are generated during normal processes such as DNA replication and repair. The study found that there are different types of DNA ligases that are targeted to specific nuclear DNA transactions and that they play a crucial role in maintaining the mitochondrial genome. The research also suggests that DNA ligases could be potential targets for cancer therapy. [Extracted from the article]
