Abstract
- For over 400 years, it was believed that painting the wounds of pruned trees would prevent infection and promote healing. However, studies conducted since 1915 have shown that these "wound dressings" do not prevent decay or speed up healing. While the general consensus in gardening textbooks is to let wounds heal naturally, recent studies have found that certain treatments, such as fungicide pastes, can actually improve wound closure rates in certain tree species. As further research is conducted, it is possible that exceptions to the "no pruning paint" rule may emerge. [Extracted from the article]
