Abstract
- A nanostructured CeO<subscript>2</subscript>–Ni coating is prepared on a steel substrate via two-step electrodeposition. An oxide scale with a multi-layer structure of Cr<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript>–(Mn,Cr)<subscript>3</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript>–(Ni,Mn,Cr)<subscript>3</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript>–NiO has developed on the coated steel after 1680 h of oxidation in air at 800 °C. CeO<subscript>2</subscript> is uniformly distributed in the spinel and NiO layers. The synergistic effects originating from nanostructured CeO<subscript>2</subscript> and NiO not only reduce the growth rate of Cr<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>3</subscript> and suppress the outward diffusion of Cr, but also improve the electrical performance of the surface scale.
