Abstract

The wet chemical synthesis was used to make a series of Sr<subscript>3</subscript>La(PO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>:Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> phosphors. X-ray diffraction (XRD), morphology, photoluminescence characteristics and chromaticity were thoroughly investigated. The X-ray diffraction was used to confirm the cubic phase with the space group I − 4 3 d (220). The Sr<subscript>3</subscript>La(PO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>:Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> phosphors show a strong excitation peak at 394 nm. Upon 394 nm excitation, two emission peaks were observed at 594 nm (orange) and 615 nm (red), which corresponding to the transitions <superscript>5</superscript>D<subscript>0</subscript> → <superscript>7</superscript>F<subscript>1</subscript> and <superscript>5</superscript>D<subscript>0</subscript> → <superscript>7</superscript>F<subscript>2</subscript> of Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> ions, respectively. The concentration quenching occurred at 0.5 mol % of Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> ions. The chromaticity coordinates of wavelength 594 nm are (x = 0.597, y = 0.401), and wavelength 615 nm is (x = 0.680, y = 0.319). The Sr<subscript>3</subscript>La(PO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>:Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> phosphors are a series of candidate phosphors for near-UV-based solid-state lighting.
