Abstract

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding is an important milestone in human life. The decision of a mother to breastfeed her child depends on the guidance, education and support she will recieve before and immediately after the parturition period and during the first weeks during breastfeeding. However, the efforts of professionals to support breastfeeding can be undermined by a number of factors, such as hospital practice, mother itself and social barriers. AIM: This review identify factors affecting breast-feeding mothers of twin infants, to reinforce and encourage them to breast-feed exclusively. RESULTS: Mothers who give birth to more than one infant often have difficulties in starting breastfeeding during their hospitalization and appropriate interventions and support are required. In addition, the birth of twin babies is physically and mentally more difficult compared to single birth and this is a factor against the onset of breastfeeding. CONCLUSION: Therefore, systematic support and training by midwives will ensure that the mother starts breastfeeding and sufficient milk production. Finally, midwives must identify the factors that affect the early weaning of the twins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
