Abstract

A review of 593 pharmacogenomic genome-wide association studies (GWAS) articles found that only 2% of them contained links to publicly available GWAS summary statistics. This lack of data sharing hinders research in the field of pharmacogenomics, which relies on large sample sizes for meaningful results. The use of GWAS summary statistics offers advantages such as decreased resource utilization, simplified data collection, and protection of participant privacy. The authors recommend that authors include mandatory reporting elements in their summary statistics, standardize and share data through established platforms, and that publishers and funding organizations promote data sharing and open science initiatives.
