Abstract

The article discusses the findings from a large observational study of a U.S. sample of adults with normal thyroid function, led by Dr. Ralph I. Lawton, which suggested that subclinical variation in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis effector hormone triiodothyronine (T3) is an important and overlooked factor linking socioeconomic forces, human biology, and aging. Topics include comments from thyroidology expert Antonio Bianco and large variations in T3.
