Abstract

Researchers from the University of British Columbia have conducted a study on ion-implanted 8Li nuclear magnetic resonance in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). The research found that the implanted Li+ ions were not appreciably mobile up to 400 K, in contrast to highly lithiated stage compounds. The relaxation of the implanted ions was fast and persisted at cryogenic temperatures, suggesting the presence of paramagnetic centers correlated with implantation. The study proposes a resonant scattering approach to explain the observed phenomenology. The research was supported by various organizations and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
