Abstract
- This study intends to evaluate the sustainability of water storage in the dam within Wadi Horan Region using remote sensing data (RS) and geographic information (GIS) systems. The sustainability of water storage in small dams improving the biophysical and socioeconomic situations of the study area. Remote sensing data (satellite images) and dam technical reports were used to establish a mathematical relationship that illustrates changes in water storage over the drought season (May-September). The quantity of water used, and water lost during the drought period of the dam was estimated using mathematical equations. The quantity of water used, water lost, and water stored in Horan 2 dam during the years 2019 and 2020 were 0.5, 2.8, and 0.8 MCM and 0.4, 1.2, and 0.278 MCM respectively. The research found that by increasing the numbers of animals, it is feasible to use the largest amount of water and therefore attain sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
