Abstract: This study compared career orientations (CO) among 729 West German, 217 British, and 124 U.S. R&D professionals from 17 large corporations. Managerial CO and professional CO emerged as 2 independent dimensions with similar cross-national meaning. Significant cross-country differences emerged in levels of professional/scientific CO.
