Abstract

A study conducted at the Hedi Chaker University Hospital in Sfax, Tunisia compared the difficulty and morbidity of catheter insertion in pediatric cancer patients and critically ill children. The study included 65 infants and children requiring central venous access, 28 of whom had malignancies. The researchers found that the time for the procedure and the number of attempts were higher in the malignancy group, and central venous catheter complications were more common in this group as well. The study concluded that catheterization in pediatric cancer patients is more difficult and associated with higher morbidity. [Extracted from the article]
