Abstract

A recent study conducted at Seoul National University in South Korea has explored the use of nanoscale liposomes for oral drug delivery. The researchers focused on enhancing the ability of liposomes to penetrate the intestinal mucus layer, which has been a limitation in their use for oral drug delivery. They achieved this by conjugating bromelain, a mucolytic enzyme derived from pineapple stems, to the liposome membrane. The study found that these bromelain-decorated liposomes demonstrated improved mucus permeation and cell membrane permeation, making them a potentially effective oral drug delivery system. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in ACS Applied Nano Materials. [Extracted from the article]
