Abstract

A recent survey conducted by researchers at Hannover Medical School examined the use of extracorporeal blood purification (EBP) as a treatment for sepsis and septic shock. The survey found that 74.5% of participants use EBP in their clinical practice, with unselective cytokine adsorption and therapeutic plasma exchange being the most commonly used modalities. However, while there is a theoretical rationale for the use of EBP, the clinical evidence supporting its effectiveness is limited. The survey suggests that therapeutic plasma exchange may have the highest potential for further exploration in clinical trials. [Extracted from the article]
