Abstract

A new report from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) discusses the findings of a study on the association between serum Uromodulin (UMOD) levels and kidney failure and mortality in African American adults with chronic kidney disease and hypertension. The study found that lower UMOD levels at baseline and steeper declines in UMOD over time were associated with a higher risk of subsequent kidney failure. The research was funded by various organizations including the NIH and the German Research Foundation. The study highlights the potential of UMOD as a biomarker for tubule health.
