Abstract
- A study conducted by Baylor University College of Medicine compared the use of tiotropium bromide (Tio) and long-acting beta 2-agonists (LABA) as add-ons to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) for the treatment of uncontrolled asthma. The study found that there was no significant difference in the proportion of patients who experienced severe or moderate-to-severe exacerbations between the two treatment groups. However, healthcare resource utilization was higher in the ICS + Tio group for asthma-related outpatient visits. The study suggests that ICS + Tio may be a valid alternative when ICS/LABA cannot be used as first-line treatment for asthma maintenance therapy. [Extracted from the article]
