Abstract

A recent case report from Akita University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan describes a rare occurrence of nonunion in a pediatric femoral shaft fracture due to vitamin deficiencies. The patient, an 11-year-old girl, experienced nonunion six months after undergoing osteosynthesis with a titanium elastic nail. After being found deficient in vitamins D and K, she received vitamin supplementation and underwent revision surgery with a rigid antegrade intramedullary nail, resulting in successful bone union. The research emphasizes the importance of promptly investigating and treating the underlying cause of delayed union in fractures, even in children without underlying diseases.
