Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from ASTAR's Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS) has found that children exposed to early life adversity (ELA) experience accelerated brain development during the preschool years. ELA includes factors such as a mother's mental and physical health challenges during pregnancy. This accelerated brain development may lead to a higher risk of adverse cognitive and mental health outcomes. The study suggests that interventions during the ages of 4.5 and 6 years could potentially improve outcomes for children exposed to ELA. Further research is needed to determine the long-term effects of ELA on brain aging and the effectiveness of intervention strategies. [Extracted from the article]
