Abstract

This editorial discusses the human impacts on bats in tropical ecosystems and explores sustainable actions and alternatives to mitigate these effects. The extensive conversion of natural ecosystems, particularly in tropical developing countries, poses a significant threat to bat populations. The loss of habitat and environmental degradation resulting from land use changes have led to the decline in bat species diversity and the disruption of ecosystem services provided by bats. The editorial highlights the critical role of forest cover in bat conservation, the interactions between bats and other organisms, and the impacts of environmental transformation on ecosystem service provision by bats. It emphasizes the importance of preserving intact forests, restoring secondary forests, and implementing initiatives with local populations and producers to protect bat biodiversity and promote sustainable alternatives.
