Abstract

The global energy sector is investing billions of dollars in expanding natural gas infrastructure, despite efforts to transition away from fossil fuels. The expansion is driven by the belief that natural gas will continue to play a significant role in the world's energy mix until at least 2050. Over the next five years, more than 200 million tons of new natural gas export capacity will come online, with the potential for an additional 300 million tons by 2030. However, the environmental impact of natural gas, particularly its methane emissions, is a cause for concern among activists and scientists. [Extracted from the article]
