Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Pretoria in South Africa compared the effectiveness and side effects of three different drug combinations used to immobilize African lions. The study found that all three drug combinations resulted in smooth inductions and effective immobilizations, but also caused hypertension in the lions. The combination of ketamine-butorphanol-medetomidine (KBM) was found to allow for shorter and less ataxic recoveries compared to the other combinations. The study highlights the importance of balancing drug effectiveness with potential side effects when immobilizing lions. [Extracted from the article]
