Abstract

This article compares the economic indicators of Japan in the early 1980s to the present. It specifically focuses on the yen-dollar exchange rate, which has shown a weak yen trend in both periods. The article also analyzes the impact of purchasing power parity and interest rate differentials on the exchange rate. It concludes that the lack of earning power in Japan is a significant difference between the two periods. The article provides data on various economic indicators from 2015 to 2023, including industrial production, consumer price index, foreign trade statistics, cash salary amount, job openings, unemployment rate, M2 rate of increase, balance of payments, yen to dollar exchange rate, and trade balance. The data reveals fluctuations in these indicators over the years, with periods of growth and decline. [Extracted from the article]
