During the Gulf War coalition forces were concerned about the chances of Saddam Hussein using chemical ordnance, having already deployed them with deadly effect in the Iran-Iraq War and against the domestic Kurdish population. Despite the training exercises against chemical warfare, many troops came home with debilitating symptoms known as Gulf War Syndrome.
