Abstract
- FRONTLINE9 September 1990French soldiers of the 1st Parachute Hussar Regiment train with anti-chemical weapon equipment. During the Gulf War coalition forces were concerned about the chances of Saddam Hussein using chemical ordnance, having already deployed them with deadly effect in the Iran-Iraq War and against the domestic Kurdish population. Despite the training exercises against chemical warfare, many troops came home with debilitating symptoms known as Gulf War Syndrome. The illness was eventually discovered to be caused by exposure to sarin gas after the bombardment of Iraqi ammunition dumps.PHOTO (COLOR) [Extracted from the article]
