Abstract

This article examines the circulation of the concept of Smart Cities (SC) in Chile and its impact on urban planning and governance. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, including ethnography and analysis of Twitter data, to explore how the idea of SC is disseminated in Chile. The research reveals that private companies and public economic institutions associated with innovation and digital transformation are the primary drivers of the concept. The article also discusses the limitations of the SC narrative, which focuses on technological industries and overlooks social issues and certain actors. [Extracted from the article]
