Abstract

The vibration-rotation emission spectra of CdH<subscript>2</subscript> and CdD<subscript>2</subscript> molecules have been recorded at high resolution using a Fourier-transform spectrometer. The molecules were generated in a furnace-discharge emission source by reaction of cadmium vapor with molecular hydrogen or deuterium. The fundamental bands for the antisymmetric stretching mode (υ<subscript>3</subscript>) of CdH<subscript>2</subscript> and CdD<subscript>2</subscript> were detected at about 1771.5 and 1278.3 cm<superscript>-1</superscript>, respectively. In addition, the 002(Σ<subscript>g</subscript><superscript>+</superscript>)–001(Σ<subscript>u</subscript><superscript>+</superscript>) and 011(Π<subscript>g</subscript>)–010(Π<subscript>u</subscript>) hot bands were observed for CdH<subscript>2</subscript>. Spectroscopic constants were determined for each of the 12 observed isotopologs: <superscript>110</superscript>CdH<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>111</superscript>CdH<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>112</superscript>CdH<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>113</superscript>CdH<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>114</superscript>CdH<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>116</superscript>CdH<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>110</superscript>CdD<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>111</superscript>CdD<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>112</superscript>CdD<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>113</superscript>CdD<subscript>2</subscript>, <superscript>114</superscript>CdD<subscript>2</subscript>, and <superscript>116</superscript>CdD<subscript>2</subscript>. The average Cd-H and Cd-D bond distances (r<subscript>0</subscript>) were determined to be 1.683028(10) and 1.679161(16) Å, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
