Abstract

A rare case report from the University of Baghdad discusses the emergence of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in a patient with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) during treatment with cyclophosphamide. GPA is an autoimmune disease that affects multiple organs and causes inflammation in small blood vessels. The case highlights the unique occurrence of APL in a GPA patient undergoing cyclophosphamide therapy. Previous research has reported a similar case with a different medication. Treatment for GPA involves achieving and maintaining remission, but cyclophosphamide-based regimens have been associated with an increased risk of hematological malignancies. The patient in this case was treated with all-trans retinoic acid, arsenic trioxide, and steroids. [Extracted from the article]
