Abstract
- A recent study conducted by Emory University School of Medicine aimed to understand how and why nurses prioritize their patient care tasks. The researchers used high fidelity simulations to incorporate common barriers to practicing infection prevention, such as time pressure, high workload, and interruptions. The findings revealed that patient stability and comfort were higher priorities for task sequencing than infection prevention. The study suggests that healthcare workers must balance competing priorities and limited resources when sequencing their tasks, and further research is needed to explore different approaches to task sequencing.
