Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in China examined the anatomical structure of the maxillary sinus artery (MSA) using cone-beam CT (CBCT) measurement. The study observed 1,021 patients who underwent implant surgery at Ruijin Hospital due to dentition defects or loss. The researchers measured the position, shape, diameter, and distance of the MSA, as well as its correlation with the lateral wall thickness and width of the maxillary sinus. The study found that the position and shape of the MSA can vary, with the shape changing from intrasinus to intraosseous type as patients age. Male patients had larger MSA diameter and greater risk of arterial bleeding compared to females. The study also found correlations between the MSA and the lateral wall thickness and width of the maxillary sinus. [Extracted from the article]
