Abstract

A report from the University of Illinois examines the relationship between physical inactivity (PI) and obesity in the United States (U.S.) through the lens of the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections. The research finds that counties where the Democratic candidate received more votes had lower levels of PI and obesity prevalence on a national level. However, there were variations at a regional level, with some U.S. cultural regions showing exceptions to this trend. The study suggests that cultural and political factors influence PI and obesity trends in the U.S. and should be further explored. [Extracted from the article]
