Abstract

A recent report from Copenhagen University Hospital provides new data on cognitive impairment and psychopathology in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors. The study found that during hospitalization, 65% of OHCA survivors experienced cognitive impairment, 25% reported symptoms of anxiety, 20% reported symptoms of depression, and 21% reported symptoms of traumatic distress. At the three-month follow-up, 53% still reported cognitive impairment, and the prevalence of symptoms of anxiety, depression, and traumatic distress decreased slightly. The study concluded that OHCA survivors often experience cognitive impairment and symptoms of psychopathology, which can have unfavorable mental health outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
