Abstract

A recent study conducted by Kyoto University investigated the association between the use of atomoxetine or methylphenidate and cardiovascular events in patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in Japan. The study found that there was an increased risk of arrhythmia in patients within the first 7 days of initiating atomoxetine treatment, but no association was found between methylphenidate exposure and arrhythmia. The study suggests that clinicians should consider monitoring for arrhythmia in patients starting or restarting atomoxetine treatment. However, further analysis was limited due to the small number of stroke and myocardial infarction cases. [Extracted from the article]
