Abstract

This article discusses the impact of sex differences on immune system aging and responsiveness to vaccination. The aging population, particularly older adults, is more susceptible to chronic diseases and infections, making it crucial to understand individual-specific variation in aging and healthy aging. The study reveals that men and women's immune systems age differently, with men experiencing accelerated immune system aging compared to women. Additionally, the research shows that men and women respond differently to vaccines, with women benefiting more from certain vaccines. The article emphasizes the importance of considering biological sex in clinical decision-making and calls for increased funding and awareness to study sex differences in biology for improved health outcomes.
