Abstract

This document is an editorial discussing the advances in wearable devices for sports. The use of wearables, such as inertial measurement units (IMUs) and global positioning systems/accelerometer-based tracking devices, allows for the acquisition of kinematic, kinetic, and physiological variables that are important for coaches and athletes. The editorial highlights several studies that explore the use of wearables in sports, including assessing and monitoring physical performance in volleyball players, evaluating the external training load of elite-level goalkeepers, investigating the effects of body segments on punch execution, and measuring propulsive force in swimming. The editorial concludes that wearable technology is becoming an affordable and accurate alternative for real-time data acquisition in sports, providing valuable information for performance enhancement and injury prevention.
